Professional World Poker Tour

  The world's most professional poker players play in a series of poker tournaments known as the World Poker Tour. The World Poker Tour is controlled by the WPT Enterprises. Even though it is called the World Poker Tour it is commonly held in the United States.

          The World Poker Tour started in late 2002 and hit its peak in 2003 during the Championship in April which was held at the Bellagio Casino in Las Vegas, Nevada. The show first appeared on television in 2003 on the Travel Channel and showed up on network television in 2004 on NBC with a special tournament the Battle of Champions.

          Texas hold'em poker tournaments are the collection that make up the World Poker Tour and are held internationally although most games occur in the United States. Since the start of the World Poker Tour, there has been an increase in poker games throughout the United States and online.

           What draws many people to the World Poker Tour is the fact that anyone who can afford the five thousand to twenty-five thousand dollar buy-in can sit down at a table and play against some of the top professional poker players and a chance to play in the final tournament.

           The Walk of Fame was created in 2004 by the World Poker Tour. Members of this Walk of Fame include poker players Doyle Brunson and Gus Hansen as well as the actor James Garner.

           Today the World Poker Tour still remains one of the highest rated programs on cable television. Recently the first season of the show has become available on DVD.
