Cranbrook's Royal Canadian Legion turned to anger

CRANBROOK, B.C. -- The poker faces at Cranbrook's Royal Canadian Legion turned to anger last week when it was announced the branch had decided to fold its popular Texas Hold'em tournaments rather than face a hefty fine. The Legion recently received a heads-up from the liquor inspector informing them that their tournaments could face the ire of the B.C. Gaming commission among others.
It's official: Jennifer Tilly has completed her metamorphosis from poker-playing actress to poker player, period.

For the first time in 15 years, Jennifer Tilly was nowhere to be seen at the Academy Awards or at any of the post-show hoopla. Instead, Tilly was in Las Vegas at the NBC Heads-Up Poker Championship.

Royal Flush - A royal flush is a five-card sequence of the same suit which includes a ten, jack, queen, king, and ace. It conquers all.

The odds of getting a royal flush are 1 in 649,740

  Straight Flush


Straight Flush - A straight flush is any five-card sequence of the same suit. A straight flush is the second-best hand you can get in a game of poker. If two people at the same table have a straight flush, the player whose straight ends with the highest card value is the winner.

The odds of getting a straight flush are 1 in 64,974

 Four-of-a-Kind

Four-of-a-Kind - A four-of-a-kind poker hand consists of four cards of the same value. A four-of-a-kind poker hand is the third-strongest hand you can get in poker. If two players at the same table have four-of-a-kind, the winner is the player with the highest set of four cards.

The odds of getting four-of-a-kind are 1 in 3,914
 

Full House 

Full House - A full house poker hand comprises three cards of the same value, plus two cards of the same value. For example: ace, ace, ace, five, five. If two players at the same table have a full house, the player who has the highest three-of-a-kind is the winner.

The odds of getting a full house are 1 in 586.1
 


Flush - A flush is a poker hand where all five cards are the same suit. This poker hand ranking is pretty commong in texas holdem and regarded as a really good hand. Especially if you've got the ace. For example: 9 of hearts, 7 of hearts, queen of hearts, jack of hearts, ace of hearts. If two players at the same table have a flush, the player with the high card is the winner.

The odds of getting a flush are 1 in 273.1

 

Straight  

Straight - A straight is a five-card sequence that is not of the same suit. A straight cannot continue past the ace (for example jack, queen, king, ace, two). If two players at the same table have a straight, the winner is the player whose straight ends with the highest card value.

The odds of getting a straight are 1 in 131.8

 

Three-of-a-Kind 

 
Three-of-a-Kind - A three-of-a-kind poker hand consists of three cards of the same value. If two players at the same table have three-of-a-kind, the winner is the player with the highest set of three cards.

The odds of getting three-of-a-kind are 1 in 34.8

Two Pair

Two Pair - A two-pair poker hand consists of two sets of two cards of the same value. If two players at the same table have two pair, the winner is the player with the highest pair.

The odds of getting two pair are 1 in 13.11

Pair

Pair - A pair poker hand consists of two cards of the same value. If two players at the same table have a pair, the winner is the player with the highest pair.

The odds of getting a pair are 1 in 2



High Card - A high-card poker hand is a hand that does not have any of the above combinations.
